Ministrial SErvice
Ok, I was here, at my own room, the whole summer break. I have been no where since I have lots of savings to do. Then, I began to look surround. Man, what have I done all tis long? I have had lots of things going on in my life for almost a year since I left the choir.
When I tried to look back on my earlier life at the choir, I could capture series of picture of my fellow choir members and how we did some works to gather money to be able to go out of the campus and serve the congregation in certain churches.
I could recall the times when I and my friends raised funds; visited some lecturers' houses and asked them whether they have things that need help to be taken care of; I could remember how my friends were full of sweat digging holes and carrying some trash to get some cash for the whole group.
But what happened is that there were some people then changed the way we raised fund to get money 'faster'. I didn't know whether it was a good idea to make the change, but I had a feeling that we were going to have hard times in nurturing working habit to raise money.
Now, after I quitted, the situation turns even worse. They raised funds in even more extreme ways. Yes, they did a lot of sellings by themselves; that is a good way to raise fund. But then they started to distribute proposals and some even force their parents to find money for them. Some asked their parents to 'help' them looking for people whom they believe could help them financially. In fact, when the parents asked them to go home for only one night, because they miss their kids already, these choir dudes started to make excuses. I said to myself, why would they force their parents to do things for them when they did not want to do some little wish from their parents? The disciples in the Bible did prioritize ministrial activities than the family, but I don't think they never visit their family even once in their life... This is a sad truth I can see from most of them.
I also can see how the choir members become so eager, or I can say too extreme, in 'defending' or being at the side... less people know most of them while they spend more time in their group activities. This is, for me, a good way to build team work and social morale among them, but it can not be too extreme like this.
Another thing that concerns me a lot is their health. Most of the time I found out that they spend almost 8 hours practicing and spending time gathering together (during semester break) or up to 10p.m. practicing. I just don't see any sense why they press their members so much not to eat or drink any particular food or meal that could destroy their voice, but they never pay attention to their physical fitness. Ironically, they said that it is a must in order to prepare for a service.
I am not blaming someone or putting this particular choir into the corner of fault... noo... absolutely not. This is just a thought of me who is so curious about things going on with my past.. in that choir.
Yes, the Lord asks us to spread gospel all over the world (Matthew 28:19-20), BUT I think we should take care of our body, health, and the way we do the ministrial service to other. It is better to serve people while we don't hurt or putting other people into troublesome.
